The collar is used in place of a leash. My dog stays in the yard when wearing the collar. If he happens to chase a cat is when I use the shock feature. I like how it has a quick stronger shock (static +) incase dog doesnt listen. I also like how it comes with silicone caps for the prongs so like that theres no straight metal touching dogs skin.
